Naga Country – Expedition Overview
Naga Country is an exclusive adventure tour to the Fireball Festival held near Nong Khai on the banks of the Mekong River. Once a year, during two magical nights in October, mysterious glowing red spheres rise from the water, soar 10–20 meters into the sky, and disappear.
According to legend, the Paya Naga—a mighty serpent living in the Mekong—creates these fireballs to honor the Buddha’s arrival in our world. Locals still perform offerings to the serpent for protection and prosperity.
Scientists suggest that the phenomenon may result from unique gas emissions under special weather conditions, but no definitive explanation exists. Whether myth or mystery, every Thai will tell you that these are truly the Fireballs of the Naga.
The spectacle attracts over a million visitors each year, coming from around the world to see this extraordinary sight. Join us before the Naga spirits move elsewhere!
In addition to the festival, we will explore:
- Ancient rock paintings and prehistoric grottoes
- The towns of Nong Khai, Nakhon Ratchasima, and Khon Kaen
- The fascinating Dinosaur Sanctuary
The full Naga Country Expedition lasts 4 days.
